Bienvenidos a Madrid! Welcome to Madrid!

Madrid has been the capital of Spain since 1561, and is one of the most frequently visited cities in Europe.

Madrid is mostly well known and loved for its gastronomy, culture, architecture and sunny weather throughout the year.

Madrid´s vibrant gastronomy features a mix of traditional and modern influences. Do not miss tasting Churros con chocolate in San Gines, and make sure you try as many different tapas as possible – local markets such as Mercado de la Paz or Mercado de San Anton are great spots to enjoy them.

The city´s architecture is a diverse and eclectic mix that reflects its rich history, cultural influences, and modern development. The most impressive examples include Palacio de Cibeles – the current city hall, Royal Palace – an iconic example of baroque architecture at Plaza Mayor among many others.

You can feel the Mediterranean atmosphere just by strolling through the neighbourhoods of the city. For a historic and art vibe, head to Barrio de las Letras, for a multicultural experience full of youth energy, visit Lavapies, and for a hipster and LGTB friendly atmosphere head to Malasaña and Chueca where you can find plenty of local coffee shops, small cafes and… nightlife.

If you look to experience passion through music and dance, do not hesitate to visit a flamenco venue such as Patio de Leones, or more classic Corral de la Moreria.

Madrid will welcome you with an impressive balance of developing metropole, and a relaxed lifestyle.
